David John Kuck, 72, passed away on October 28, 2021 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice with his wife by his side. He was born on September 22, 1949 to Janice (Nourse) and John Kuck. On June 14, 1975, he married his college sweetheart, Susan Kay Oppermann. He became a father to his beloved daughter, Elizabeth, in 1987.
David attended Sheboygan public schools and graduated from North High School in 1968. He then went on to Milwaukee Area Technical College, Sheboygan County Teacher’s College, and graduated with a Bachelor’s (1973) and Master’s (1979) Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
David had a long and successful career as a teacher in the Sheboygan Area School District, beginning as a 4th/ 5th grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School. He then spent 23 years as a 6th grade social studies teacher at Horace Mann and Urban Middle Schools. David was one of the first teachers to see the power, application and educational importance of computers and the Internet for middle school students and their families. It was a special joy for him to have Elizabeth in his class.
David is survived by his wife, Susan and daughter, Elizabeth. His is further survived by brothers Christopher (Christine), Daniel (Cindy), brother-in-law James Oppermann (MarySue), nieces and nephews, and favorite cousin, John Nourse. He is also survived by countless precious friends both here in Sheboygan and across the country. Dave was always making new friends, while staying close to childhood friends Jim Mankopf (Holly), Vernon Schnell (Karen) and Lincoln Meerdink. He is preceded in death by his parents, aunts /uncles, and dear friend Larry Jaeck.
Susan was the love of Dave’s life. Along with Elizabeth, they traveled to national parks for hiking and animal watching, to northern Wisconsin for fishing and pontooning, and to Florida for beach walking and relaxing. He loved watching the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers as well as his favorite monster movies with friends and family. And he was always able to choose the perfect bottle of wine for special meals that he had cooked. David was well loved and will be greatly missed.
His family would like to thank the nursing staff at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital and at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their care and kindness to David during the last days of his life.
David’s life will be celebrated at First United Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, on Friday, November 12, 2021. The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged.
Memorials can be made to the Sheboygan Public Education Foundation, the Sheboygan County Food Bank, First United Lutheran Church, or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
