Virginia L. Markwardt, 93, of Sheboygan, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at her home. Born February 20, 1922 in Sheboygan, Virginia was a daughter of the late Frank and Anna Dragon Bowhan. She attended area schools. On November 13, 1954, she was united in marriage to Willard G. Markwardt at Zion Church. They were married for 48 years before Willard preceded her in death on September 25, 2003. Virginia worked at Wigwam Mills for 24 1/2 years before her retirement. She previously worked at Kohler Company and the Vollrath Company. She also cleaned houses and at a bakery. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Covenant Church. She loved dancing and shopping. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Sperry, Sheboygan, and Debra Markwardt, Midlothian, TX; her grandson, Craig (Juanita) Greiner, TX; her granddaughter, Laura Schnicke, Sheboygan; and two great granddaughters, Abigail and Monica Schnicke, Sheboygan; her sister, Anna Marx, Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is further survived by her good friends Margarita and Sandy. Besides her parents and husband, Willard, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Markwardt, a granddaughter, Lisa Greiner, a grandson, Troy Sperry, her brother-in-law, Wallace Marx, and her dogs, Buffy, Sugar, Cutie and Taz. Funeral services for Virginia will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Zion Covenant Church, 1125 N. 6th Street. Rev. Andy Hopp will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place in Gardens of Peace Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established in her name. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St. Nicholas Home Health and Hospice and especially her granddaughter, Laura, for all of their loving care and support.
