Victor L. Hoberg

Victor Hoberg, retired Sheboygan Press employee and life-long resident of Sheboygan, WI died on August 26, 2021 at the age of 99.

Vic is survived by two daughters; Karen (Hugo) Lucic and Victoria (William) Butzen.  He was grandfather (Boompa) to; Kimberly (Rich) Cannon (Tennessee), Chip Hildebrand (Wyoming), Nathan (Jacquelyn) Koehn (Ohio), Matthew Koehn (Howards Grove) and Benjamin (Kristin) Butzen (Fond du Lac) along with 9 great-grandchildren; Sidonia, Amelia and Zane Cannon, Ethan, Peyton, Carter and Logan Koehn, and Camren and Aubree Butzen, along with 3 nieces; Sandra (Richard) Johnson, Marlene Hoberg, and Mary (Robin) Strahl. He is predeceased by the love of his life: Arlis M. (Harff) Hoberg with whom he shared 70 blessed years of marriage.  Arlis passed away on January 18, 2021.  Vic is also predeceased by his parents: Victor L. and Sidonia (Eggert) Hoberg; his brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Francis Hoberg, and a niece, Susan Rolloff.

Vic was born in Sheboygan on May 23, 1922.  He graduated with the North High Class of 1940.  It was then that he began a 47-year career with The Sheboygan Press.  He was initially hired to drive truck – delivering newspapers to the stores around town.  Five months later he was called to serve his country in WWII as a PFC in Company B – 132 Infantry.  He fought in the South Pacific – mainly in Guadalcanal – part of the Solomon Islands.    Vic was proud to have received the Combat Infantry Badge upon his discharge in January 1946.

After the war Vic returned to “The Press”, working in the mailroom and delivering the freshly printed stacks of bundled papers to the carriers waiting on their designated neighborhood corners.  Eventually he became manager of the Advertising Services Dept. and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1987.  Throughout his life Vic was thrilled to have former paperboys (now themselves in their 80’s) stop him to say “Hi Vic!”  Some folks knew dad as “Junior” but we were never allowed to call him that.

Victor was a supportive husband, dad, grandfather (Boomps) and great grandpa.  He and Arlis enjoyed many years of travel throughout the US and Canada.  He enjoyed listening to music, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire on his Kindle, and watching/solving “Wheel of Fortune’’ and “Jeopardy!”.  Vic was thankful for every day he woke up.

Victor was proud to be a lifelong member of St. John’s UCC Church in Sheboygan having been baptized, confirmed, and married there in addition to serving on the Church Council, Brotherhood, Dart ball League and as Vice President of the Congregation. He tried to live his faith every day.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10 a.m. September 1, 2021 with the Reverend Gregory Whelton presiding.  A memorial fund has been established in Victor’s name for St. John’s UCC Church, Sheboygan.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers of Sharon S. Richardson Hospice and Terrace Place for their care and support shown to Victor and his family.

The Olson Funeral Home and Cremation Service has been entrusted with Vic’s arrangements.
