Tony F. Shircel, age 88, Sheboygan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon.
Tony was born February 5, 1928, in Sheboygan, the son of Anton and Mary (Gostisha) Sircelj. He attended Washington Grade School and graduated from Sheboygan North High School class of 1946. Tony served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 in Germany with the 486th Transportation Company.
Tony married the love of his life Marion VerVelde on October 29, 1955, at St. George Catholic Church in the Town of Wilson. Tony enjoyed a long career as a postal clerk with the United States Post Office in Sheboygan, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed good music and attended many musical stage shows with Marion. He and his family went on many road trips throughout the United States. He and his extended family enjoyed vacations in Canada and Wildwood Resort near Eagle River and picnics on Memorial Day and Labor Day at Evergreen Park for many years. He was an avid North High boys basketball fan and attended games for over 25 years. Tony enjoyed Saturday morning breakfasts with the Sheboygan Post Office retirees and close friends. He was a long time member and parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Tony liked working outdoors and taking care of his yard.
Tony was proud of his Slovenian Heritage and enjoyed Slovenian-style music. His two favorite musical artists were Frank Yankovic and Frank Sinatra. He loved singing and dancing. He was a member of Slovenian SNPJ Lodge 58. Tony had a keen sense of humor and always had jokes to share. He enjoyed his grandchildren and the high school sports and musical events in which they participated. Tony never missed a chance to express to his family how much he loved and appreciated them. He always told Marion she was the best wife and mother in the world. Tony's greatest gift was his capacity for love. Words do not do justice to his spirit.
Tony was survived by is wife of 61 years, Marion; his children, Diane (Patrick) Miles, Howards Grove, Steven (Karen) Shircel, Sheboygan, and Thomas (Denise) Shircel, Kenosha; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Sierra) Miles, McFarland, Kevin (Jodie) Miles, Sheboygan, Matthew (Amy) Miles, Plymouth, Kelly Miles, Milwaukee, Andrew Shircel, Sheboygan Falls, Anna (special friend Matthew Wendt) Shircel, Madison, and Tyler, Amy and Cora Shircel, all of Kenosha; his great grandchildren, Paige, Serenity and Raina; his in-laws, Marilyn VerVelde, James (Hilly) VerVelde, and Loraine Oetzel, all of Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley, and his brothers-in-law, Eugene VerVelde and Myron Oetzel.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 21st and Geele Avenue. Fr. Dan Lasecki will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue, on Sunday, November 27, 2016, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Pine Haven Christian Home and the caregivers at Columbia St. Mary's for all of their loving care and support.
