On April 19, 2018 Stuart Howland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by Love from family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 16, 1957 in Duluth, MN to Edward and Eldora (Gunderson) Howland. He graduated from Duluth Central in 1975. He studied Art at UW-Superior and received his Masters from UW-Milwaukee. He was a founding teacher of the Etude Schools in 2007 in Sheboygan where he taught until March 2018.
He was passionate about creating art and influenced countless students to be confident in their own abilities throughout his teaching career. He was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. He loved traveling and of course visiting Art Museums! He will forever be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit. We are all blessed to have known and loved such a beautiful peaceful soul.
Stuart is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Kunes Howland; his children, Chloe Howland, Cleveland, OH; Arden Howland, Sheboygan, WI; his stepchildren; Rhianna Dennehy, Asheville, NC; Jake Kunes, Long Beach, CA; Jesse Kunes, Madison, WI; Joseph Kunes, Madison, WI; Grandchildren; Roman, Aria, and Evan; his sisters; Robyn (Mark) Johnson, Chicago, IL; Mary Jo (Bob Little) Howland, Duluth, MN; his brother Troy (Heather) Howland, Rochester, MN and many nieces & nephews as well as friends from all over the world.
He was preceded in death by his father & mother; Edward & Eldora (Gunderson) Howland.
A celebration of his life will be held at Oakbrook Community Church, 1624 Broadway Ave, Sheboygan WI at 3pm on Sunday, April 22, 2018. In lieu of flowers we have created a Scholarship for an Etude Student pursuing Art Education this year.
A special thanks to Dr Mark Bettag for his compassion and kindness, truly an angel among us. We also thank the staff at Froedtert Hospital for their excellent health care.
