Ruth Russell

Ruth Ziegler Russell, 88, Sheboygan, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on November 22, 2023, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Ruth was the daughter of the late Hans "John" and Bertha E. Hetzel Ziegler. She graduated from Kiel High School and was a graduate of University of Wisconsin. After raising her family in Sauk City, she had a career as a nurse.
Ruth was a voracious reader. She enjoyed gardening, volunteering at voter drives, and singing in her local Gesangverein. Ruth could redecorate a room from scratch, weaving the carpets, covering and painting the walls, creating intricate quilts, and caning the chairs. She was active in Toastmasters and the Red Hat society. As a feminist, Ruth taught her children to be independent and respectful of all people. Her sharp sense of humor will be missed.
Ruth is survived by her children, David (Mary) Russell, Diane (Toshiyoshi) Russell, Allen (Colleen) Russell, and Don (Joli) Russell; her grandchildren, Yukiko (Oskar) Nakagome, Takashi (Giselle) Nakagome, Hiland Russell, Leeta (Thomas) Russell, and Hattie Russell; her siblings, William Ziegler and Marie (Dennis) Voland; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; stepsiblings, Myrtle (Delmar) Meyer and Alvin Dickmann; brother, John Carl Ziegler; sister-in-law, Delores Ziegler; and sister, Margene (LeRoy) Hansen.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Ruth's arrangements.
