Roland H. Buechner

October 16, 1924 — January 20, 2013

Roland H. Buechner, 88, of 4119 N. 46th Street, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Born October 16, 1924 in Butternut, WI, Roland was a son of the late William and Louise Kauffman Buechner. He attended and graduated from schools in Butternut, WI. Following high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. On May 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Emma Ida Ehmke at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butternut. They were married for 60 years before Dorothy preceded him in death on May 22, 2009. Roland was a machinist for Alpha Laval G&H in Kenosha, retiring as a supervisor after 33 years. He was a founding member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Kenosha where he served as an elder, usher and president. He loved hunting, fishing and playing cards, especially cribbage. He and Dorothy enjoyed the time they spent with their grandchildren and great grandchildren at their cabin up north and visiting with friends and family. Roland also enjoyed attending the JOY group and Bible Study at The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer as well as volunteering with the Lutheran Braille Society. He is survived by his five children, Ruth (Steve) Norlander, Sheboygan, Shirley Vakos, Racine, Gail (Gene) Myres, Commerce City, CO, Roland, Jr. Buechner, Richmond, VA, and Linda (Earl) Stenger, Fredricktown, OH; eleven grandchildren, Corey (Penny) Norlander, Sheboygan, Adam (Bobbie) Norlander, Sheboygan Falls, Paul (Teresa) Norlander, Butternut, Emily (Casey) Monaghan, Racine, Sarah Vakos, Racine, Peter Vakos, Racine, Melissa (Jeff) Stadtherr, Brighton, CO, Steve (Lindsay) Myres, Pewaukee, WI, Jason Myres, Kenosha, Naomi (Michael) Heckman, Mt. Vernon, OH and Andrea Stenger, Fredricktown, OH; twelve great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and his wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by his two sisters and a brother. Funeral services for Roland will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 3027 Wilgus Avenue. The Rev. Bryan Osladil, pastor, will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove, WI. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St. Nicholas Home Health and Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
