Robert Alphonse "Bob” Adelman passed away on August 24, 2025, at his home in the Town of Sheboygan at the age of 79.
He was born on June 27, 1946, to the late Rita Miller Adelman and Alphonse Adelman.
Bob lived with his family in St. Nazianz and helped support his family by working on their homestead farm. He attended St. Gregory Elementary School and graduated from St. Gregory High School in 1964.
Bob enlisted in military service in June 1964 and served in the Air Force where he served as a communications center specialist on Air Force bases in Texas, Kansas City and Ankara, Turkey. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant in February 1968.
On May 3, 1969, he was married to Janice Schwoerer Adelman in Cleveland, Wisconsin where they settled and raised their family. While their marriage didn't last, they remained great friends.
Following his military service, Bob worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. He worked in a variety of roles at the Manitowoc Post Office and demonstrated dedication and admirable work ethic.
He retired from the Postal Service in 2007 and lived and worked in several full and part time jobs in Manitowoc, Port Washington, and Grafton before settling in Sheboygan. During his downtime, Bob was an avid sports fan, and usually had a basketball, football or baseball game on the TV when at home and enjoyed spending long Saturdays watching college football. Bob started a cardiac rehab program after heart surgery in 2014 and continued going to the center regularly to exercise. He remained curious about the world, was an inveterate reader, and enjoyed indulging his ever-present sweet tooth.
Bob will be remembered by those who knew him for his sense of humor and steadfastness to those he loved. If he met you, he was interested in learning about your life and family. If he knew you, he would regale you with stories and jokes. If you were lucky, you were the recipient of his funny cards for your birthday and Christmas; he was unmatched in finding and sending cards to bring a smile to your face. He found joy in the successes of his family and friends. He faced ongoing health issues with quiet courage and faced a daunting cancer diagnosis with strength and grace.
Bob is survived by his three children, Chris (Pat) Adelman of Sheboygan, Beth (Constante Cabunoc) Adelman of Wauwatosa, and Judd (Jen) Adelman of Sheboygan; brother Louis (Cathy) Adelman of Sheboygan; grandchildren Rachel Adelman, Ryan Adelman and Quincy Cabunoc; brother in law Felix Hughes; dear friend Jan Adelman (Chuck Mahnke); sister in law Diane Marks (Ron); and many much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and good friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn Adelman Duebner, brother-in-law Ron Duebner, and sister-in-law Darlene Schwoerer Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s name to The Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative www.wisconsinvets.org to support veterans and a cause close to Bob’s heart.
