Richard George Schoneman, Sr.

July 22, 1932 — January 16, 2023

Richard George Schoneman, Sr., 90, of Sheboygan, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, at Countryside Manor in Sheboygan.
Born July 22, 1932, in Milwaukee, Richard was a son of George D. and Eleanor M. Zimmerman Schoneman. Richard graduated from Central High School in 1951. On August 1, 1953, Richard was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carol Mae Sixel. He then went on to enlist and serve our country in the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years in Oakland, CA and Kodiak, AK. For Richard's bravery in the service, he got to experience the Honor Flight in April of 2014.
Richard worked at Hayseen Manufacturing for 29 years as a pattern maker and also served as a union delegate. He also worked at Bemis Manufacturing for 9 years. Richard was a proud member of the American Legion in Sheboygan Falls. He was a follower of Christ and member of Grace UCC in Kohler. Richard enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, and was an avid fan and follower of all Wisconsin sports teams. He was very involved with family and never missed an opportunity to attend events that his children and grandchildren were involved in. His greatest joy was spending time with his kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife of 69 years, Carol Mae; his children, Mark (Sharol) Schoneman, Sheboygan Falls, Jeff (Linda) Schoneman, Howards Grove, Lynn (Glen) Kohlhagen, Plymouth, and Richard (Lisa) Schoneman, Plymouth; grandchildren, Jay (Ashley) Schoneman, Joel (Jamie Fleury) Schoneman, Kate Schoneman, Ashley (Patrick) Rathsack, Jami (Mike) Schoneman-Bohn, Jerod (Kelly) Schoneman, Jessie (Don) Wensink, Christy (Brandon) Staab, Calley (Johnny) Mize, Taylor (Hailee) Kohlhagen, Eric Schoneman, and Bryan Schoneman; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Ruth) and Robert Schoneman; brother-in-law, Ray Sixel; cousin, Al Hilpertshauser; other relatives, and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his parent-in-laws, Palmer and Leona Sixel; sister-in-law, Marion Sixel; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Leslie Schoneman.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Grace United Church of Christ, 500 School Street in Kohler. Friends and family are welcome at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Beth Petzke will be officiating.
Donations in Richard's name can be made to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and the American Legion of Sheboygan Falls.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Countryside Manor and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Richard's arrangements.
