Richard J. "Flipper" Filipiak, age 56, was called to his eternal home on Friday, March 11, 2016.
He was born on January 22, 1960 to Joseph and Vera Filipiak. Richard attended Grant Elementary, Farnsworth Jr. High and South High School.
Richard had a strong love of music and his talent took him on the road with rock and roll bands though the 1980's and 1990's. Locally, Richard played with Bottom Line and Racer bands. His greatest accomplishment was traveling thoughout the United States and playing for 7 years with the ACE band. One of Richard's most memorable times with the ACE band was a month long tour in Alaska as the backup band for Bryan Adams.
Richard returned to Sheboygan and received his journeyman electrician certification through Lakeshore Technical College. He worked as an industrial electrician at Lear Corporation, Sartori Foods and Lakeside Foods. Recently, Richard was employed at the Home Depot in Sheboygan and at Lakeview Electronics in Grafton.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to spend time fishing any stream, river or lake. He was a member of the Sheboygan Amateur Club using the call letters K9RRF and spoke daily with people all over the world. He will be remembered for his quick witted sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh.
Richard was previously married to Vicki Filipiak and Tonia Stephan.
He will be sadly missed by his parents, Vera and Roy Steinhardt; his sisters, Laurie (Randy) Lawrenz, Jackie Filipiak and Debbie (Cliff) Cook; brothers, Gary (Lynn) Steinhardt and David (Susan) Steinhardt; nieces, Greta (Jimmy) Hoderny and Leah (Brian Hibl) Schultz; nephew, Grant Schultz; and great nephew, Blake Hoderny. He is further survived by Kayla Behr, Cody Behr, Keith Stephan and Katie Stephan and his special cousins, Pia Son and Hendrich (Greta) Son of the Netherlands; and other loving family and friends. He also leaves behind his faithful companion and best dog in the world, Malcolm.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, his brother, Michael, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services for Richard will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Gregory Whelton will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Greenlawn memorial Park.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
