Richard Flegel

January 4, 1944 — March 16, 2025

Richard F. Flegel, 81, of Sheboygan, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025.  He was born on January 4, 1944 in Brookfield, IL to the late  Fred and Peggy (Robinson) Flegel.

Richard was married to Jacquelyn  Zurawski, she preceded him in death on May 10, 1975.  Richard was a cab driver in Chicago, IL.  He was a lifetime member of the National Speleological Society, and was passionate about the Wisconsin Speleological Society and the Windy City Grotto.

Richard was a live in the moment kind of guy. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it, if he had it, and you needed it, he would give it.  Throughout his life he never allowed how others saw him to effect how he loved and lived his life.

Richard was an avid outdoors man, he had a passion for caving, spending time at the lake, driving, and working on cars. He would take many trips just following the back roads, using an atlas or a map. He was very proud of the fact he never needed a GPS.  His family was very important to him. He loved playing board games with them, and spending time with his grandchildren creating many cherished memories.  Richard was also known for taking naps during family gatherings, his enjoyment of food and eating out with family, especially eating Chicago Style Pizza and drinking a good beer. In his later years, his grandchildren bought him a tricycle which he rode all over town, becoming fondly known as the "Tricycle King".

Richard is survived by his children Stephen (Elizabeth) Flegel and Lauri Flegel, grandchildren; Taylor Flegel, and Ariel and Stephen Flegel, and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Per Richard's wishes there will be no services held.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Speleological Society in Richard's name.
