Lucina "Lu" Casper

Lucina "Lu" Casper, 97, of Sheboygan, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, November 7, 2017. She had resided for 2 years at Countryside Manor Assisted Living in Sheboygan.
Lu was born two miles west of St. Anna, WI, on November 27, 1919. She was the daughter of Henry and Ida Schmitz. She attended St. Anna Catholic School and Kiel High School.
On May 27, 1941, she married Lyle C. Casper at St. Anna Catholic Church. Lu and Lyle lived in Kiel from 1941 until 1979. While in Kiel, they designed and built their home where they resided over 30 years at 611 Second Street. Lyle was the local Watkins dealer, and Lu helped him with the business out of their home. They both enjoyed gardening and even sold extra produce from their harvest.
In Kiel, Lu was active in St. Peter and Paul Christian Mothers, the Kiel Garden Club, and served as a Cub Scout den mother. She also worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store for several years. In 1975, Lu and Lyle bought Midway Laundry on 14th & Michigan in Sheboygan. At that time they also bought their home on N. 26th Street in Sheboygan. They owned and operated the Laundromat until 1992, when they sold it to the present owner, their son, Steve Casper. Lyle died in 1997 at the age of 86.
Lu enjoyed bowling, her flowers beds, playing cards and games, helping the Mission Ladies make charity quilts at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, and activities with friends and relatives. For 15 years, she went to Green Valley, AZ, for the winter, with her daughter and son-in-law.
Lu is preceded in death by her husband, her brother Pirmin Schmitz from DePere, her brother Gordon Schmitz from Kiel, and her sister-in-law Kay Schmitz from Kiel.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Patrick) Williams, Sheboygan and Green Valley, AZ, son Jim (Marge) Casper, Waukesha, son Bryan (Susan) Casper, Sheboygan and Kiel, and son Steve (Debbie) Casper, Sheboygan; her grandchildren, Renee (Jim Asher) Williams, Parker, CO, Sherrie (Bill) Stuessy, Belleville, Patrick Jr., Cedar Rapids, IA, Lori (Andy) Aitken, Ladera Ranch, CA, Christine (Jon) Wittrock, Elkhorn, Tom (Sasha) Casper, Madison and Mike Casper, Sheboygan and Kiel; her 8 great grandchildren, Billy (Aubrey) Stuessy, Alex Stuessy, Kathryn Stuessy, Ryan Williams, Kaitryn Williams, Sydney Stone, Cayden Wittrock, McKenna Wittrock, and Lucina Casper (named after her great grandma).
She is further survived by her brother, Daniel Schmitz, Kiel, her sisters-in-law, Adeline Schmitz, Kiel, and Cyrilla Schmitz, DePere; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and a good family friend, Pat Schutte, Sheboygan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 21st & Geele Ave. Fr. Gideon Buya will celebrate the Mass. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
The family would like to thank everyone involved with her tender loving care at Countryside Manor Assisted Living, Sheboygan Senior Community, and St. Nicholas Hospice.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Lu's arrangements.
