Lillian P. Bailey

June 17, 1927 — August 6, 2017

Lillian P. Bailey passed into eternal life on August 6th, 2017 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, following a stroke.
Born Lillian Louise Pekar on June 17, 1927, Lillian was the daughter of Anton Pekar and Kathryn Rath Pekar. She had three step-sisters: Helen, Mary, and Hildegard. Lillian grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and attended schools there.
On March 31, 1950, she was united in marriage with Kenneth M. Bailey, also of Cleveland, at Heights Christian Church in Shaker Heights, Ohio. They worked together in radio broadcasting, and then she supported Ken in a career change to education. Lillian and Ken had two sons, Kenneth (II) and Scott, born in 1955 and 1958, respectively.
After living in Willow Grove, PA for several years, the Baileys moved to Rangely, a remote oil town in western Colorado, where Ken was Vice President at Rangely College (now Colorado Northwestern Community College). In 1972, they relocated to Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Lillian loved music and the arts. As a child, she loved to listen to opera on the radio with her father. In Sheboygan, she was active for many years with Community Players (now Sheboygan Theater Company), where Lillian worked on costumes with close friend Pat von Rautenkranz. Even in her waning years, Lillian enjoyed attending the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra concerts and following the Milwaukee Brewers games on TV and radio.
Ken and Lillian were active members of Grace Episcopal Church in Sheboygan, regular supporters of the UW-Sheboygan Foundation and lifetime members of Friends Of Mead Public Library. For many years, Lillian knitted and crocheted afghans and participated in Project Linus, a charity that collects warm blankets and distributes them to needy children.
Surviving Lillian are her sons, Kenneth (Eileen) Bailey of Sheboygan and Scott (Janis) Bailey of Phoenix, AZ, three grandchildren: Jessica (Leigh) Taylor, Jennifer Zahniser and Jonnika (Kelly) Makela, and 9 great-grandchildren, also of Phoenix. She is further survived by nieces, Mary Ann (William) Siek of Tucson, AZ, and Lillian Weisser of Las Vegas NV, other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth M. Bailey, Sr., her sisters, and her parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at Grace Episcopal Church, 1011 N. 7th St. in Sheboygan on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Karl Schaffenburg officiating. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation between 9:30 a.m. and the time of service and share in a luncheon in St. Nicholas Hall following the service. Entombment will take place later in the day at Gardens of Peace Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Bailey Scholarship Endowment Fund at UW-Sheboygan or to Grace Episcopal Church.
Lillian’s family would like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Aurora Memorial Hospital for the loving care they gave to Lillian in her last days.
