Leon E. Schulz

Leon E. Schulz, 83, formerly of Wausau, WI, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 11, 2023. He was born in Wausau on January 12, 1940, to Edwin and Leona (Brunner) Schulz. He married his wife of 61 years, JoAnn Kniess Schulz in Wausau, WI on November 25, 1961.
Survived by his wife, his children Kimberly Damrow (Michael Damrow) and Amy Kanter, Gregory Schulz, and their dog, Olive. His grandchildren, Jessie Salazar (Anthony Salazar), Brandon Schulz (Michelle Neustel), Josh Schulz, Sonya Schulz and Quinton Schulz. His great-grandchildren, Ryan Weber, Collin Weber and Rosalie Salazar. Leon had a special love for his dog, Olive, and the family companions, Bella, Armin, Maggie, and Sophie.
He served in the Coast Guard on the USCGC Mariposa in New London, CT. He spent the majority of his career as an engineer in the communications business. After Leon and JoAnn retired, they enjoyed gardening on their acre plus property and traveling with friends and family.  He was a very talented person who could create beautiful architecture from almost nothing, all with a dream of JoAnn’s designs. Together they created an outstanding home.
In 2014, they sold their home of 47 years and moved to be close to their children and grandchildren in Sheboygan, WI. It was a fabulous chapter being close to everyone. He secured his CDL and drove a charter bus for a few years. He enjoyed cutting grass and was so fond of his John Deere. He loved to build wren bird houses and blessed nearly the entire neighborhood with them. He enjoyed gathering with family and friends to play cards/games with a Jack & Coke and old country music.
A private family service will be held with a Celebration of Life in the near future.

He will be missed by many.
