Lawrence "Larry" Bernard Dassler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024, at the age of 72.
Born on July 24, 1951, Larry lived a life filled with love, dedication, and passion for his family and interests.
Larry worked at Thomas Industries for over 30 years, starting on March 19, 1979, and retiring in November 2009. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, commitment, and the camaraderie he shared with his colleagues.
On November 14, 1981, Larry married the love of his life, Mary Jane Dassler. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Jane, and their two daughters, Kim Peterson (Drew) and Dana Fintelmann (CJ), Keith Fintelmann, and sister Denise (Jay) Verlare, and his dear friend James (Karen) Adleman. Larry was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Autumn, Coleton, Kiley, Kaylyn, Ace, Ava, Jayden, and Joe, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Larry had a profound love for his family and spent countless cherished moments with them. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, particularly tending to his tomato plants, and playing with his grandchildren. Larry and Mary Jane shared many wonderful evenings together, often enjoying casino nights. An avid outdoorsman, Larry was passionate about hunting and fishing, hobbies that allowed him to connect with nature and bond with his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Elizabeth (Martin) Dassler, his beloved son, Robert Dassler, his brothers Donald and James, sisters Shirley, Joyce and Patricia, and other relatives and friends. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy and memories will live on.
A service to celebrate Larry's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 623 Ontario Avenue. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Tuesday, May 21, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday at St. Luke UMC from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
Larry Dassler will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his zest for life’s simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
