It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of LaVerne N. Schlieder. She was called to her heavenly home on September 28, 2025 at Dimensions Living (Azura Memory Care) where she had been residing for the last year.
LaVerne was born in Sheboygan on September 22, 1928 to Arthur, Sr. and Nelda (nee Burkhardt) Steffen. She attended Bethlehem Lutheran School until the 7th grade and then transferred to Farnsworth. She played clarinet in the school marching band and was in choir at Central High School. She loved music, and always had the radio on, singing along to the tunes she grew up with. She graduated from Central High School in 1946 and furthered her education by attending Sheboygan County Normal School, located in Sheboygan Falls. She always wanted to be a teacher and was always a big advocate of public education. While at Sheboygan County Normal School, she met the man who would become her future husband, Roy Schlieder. She always teased that he would copy off her homework. They both taught at one room school houses after graduating in 1948. LaVerne and Roy were married on Thanksgiving, November 25, 1948.
LaVerne devoted her life to being a homemaker and was very proud of it. She took great pride in keeping her house spotless and clean and making a home for their six boys. They were her life and she loved them very much. She was involved with her boys in the Cub Scouts by being a den mother, and continued to support all six sons through their scouting years.
To earn extra money for Christmas, she worked at Prange's during Christmas time. She loved talking about time there. They were happy memories for her.
LaVerne was a proud Lutheran and very strong in her faith. She took great pride sitting in church with her six boys, all in suits she had sewed herself, and all were very well behaved. None of them wanted to get the look that she would give if you misbehaved.
She will be deeply missed but we know she is at peace with our Heavenly Father and she is with her family again, especially Roy, the love of her life.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, her parents, her brother Arthur Steffen, Jr. and his wife Lucille, her sister Delores Strains and her husband Roland, and her brother-in-law Ralph Schlieder and his wife Geri.
She is survived by her sons; Sam (Kathi), Dan (Frieda), Dave (Julie), Tim (Debbie), Tom (Colleen) and Jim (Kim) Schlieder; eleven grandchildren; Mark Schlieder, Christopher (Cindy) Schlieder, Elizabeth Schlieder, Erika (Ian Clare) Schlieder, Zach (Katie) Schlieder, Drew Schlieder, Naomi (fiancé Kyle Kolb) Schlieder, Sarah (Brad) Douglas, Molly, Rebecca and Maggie Schlieder; two step grandchildren, Cathy (Jeremy) Franke and Jim Wettstein. Further survived by nine great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 917 Mead Avenue, Sheboygan, on October 10, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery in Sheboygan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Our Savior's Lutheran Church in memory of LaVerne.
