LaVerne H. Hoerig, of 1329 Clara Ave., went to her eternal home July 8, 2013, at Meadow View Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past month. LaVerne was born in Sheboygan a daughter of the late Arno and Hidegard Timm Wilsing. She attended Sheboygan Public Schools and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School. On January 1, 1939, LaVerne was united in marriage to Roman Hoerig. The couple was married for 64 years before Roman preceded her in death on July 24, 2003. LaVerne was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ where she selflessly gave her time, treasures, and talents; and was on many committees and served on the Church Council in various positions. LaVerne had a passion for helping others. She oversaw the creation of St. John's Food Pantry which has served families in Sheboygan for over 35 years. Each year more than 100 families received complete dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Throughout the years she was also involved with American Cancer Jail & Bail acting as bailiff, PTAParent Teachers Association, Sheboygan County Better Films & TV council, American Red Cross for 20 years, Opti-Mrs & Optimist Club and Advocate for American Cancer Society for tobacco coalition for Sheboygan County As the founder of the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days she brightened the lives and inspired many with her dedication and devotion to others through raising funds for Cancer patients in Sheboygan County. Even with all LaVerne's accomplishments she always found time to bake and cook for her friends and family. Her passion was following Claire and Clayton (great niece and nephew) as they sang and entertained all across the state. She is survived by a daughter-in-law Rosie Hoerig; two granddaughters Kerrie (Brett) Goyette, Kelli (Jeff) Karau; and five great granddaughters, Megan, Samantha, and Hailey Goyette and Brandon & Kayla Karau, all residing in Phoenix, AZ. LaVerne is further survived by her niece, Cheryl (special friend, Rudy Mauris) Aschenbach; great niece, Kim (Jason) Michener; great nephew Todd Aschenbach; great great nephew, Clayton Michener and great great niece, Clarie Michener whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman and her son Landis. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 21, 2013, at St. John's UCC, 1248 Lincoln Ave., with the Rev. Gregory S. Whelton, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, we are asking that those who attend please consider bringing one or more non-perishable food items to be contributed to the St. John's Food Pantry in LaVerne's honor. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of both St. Nicholas Home Health & Hospice and Meadow View Manor Nursing home for the loving care they gave LaVerne. LaVerne greatly appreciated the special friendship she had with Greg.
