LaVerne H. Elias, 86, of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday evening, February 23, 2017 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by her family.
Born January 29, 1931 in Sheboygan, LaVerne was a daughter of the late John and Frieda Schultz Damrow. She attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School. She continued her education at LTC as an emergency room technician.
On April 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Harold W. Elias in Evanston, IL. They were married for 49 years before Harold preceded her in death in March of 1998.
LaVerne worked as an emergency room technician at St. Nicholas Hospital for 22 years before her retirement. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, genealogy, crocheting, collecting antiques and watching the birds. She volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her eleven children, Michael (Donna) Elias, Howards Grove, Patricia (Gary) Hauch, Howards Grove, Frank Elias, Wausaukee, Kathryn Lukonen, Sheboygan, Mark Elias, Sheboygan, Thomas (Sandy Turk) Elias, Plymouth, Therese (Scott) Schulz, Sheboygan, Mary (Terry) Charles, Sheboygan, Constance (Paul) Novak, Howards Grove, Christine (Keith) Wyckoff, Sheboygan and Kevin (Carla) Elias, Sheboygan; twenty one grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; her sister, Louise Mertes, Sheboygan; her brother, John (Carol) Damrow, Sheboygan; her sister-in-law, Margaret Bengal, OH; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Lukonen and nine of her brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for LaVerne will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. Fr. Dan Lasecki will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
