Surrounded by his wife and children, God reached out his hand and whispered “peace be with you” and welcomed Laverne Lyle Endsley home on February 19,2018.
Vern was born on September 7, 1932 in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin to Delbert and Mary Pongratz Endsley. He graduated in 1950 from Sheboygan Falls High School. While in high school, he excelled in football and track. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 achieving the rank of Staff Sargent in the military police assigned to the Atomic Energy Commission at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington. He was honorably discharged in 1956. On December 27, 1952 Vern married the love of his life Beverly Jane Wenzlick at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls. He was employed for 40 years at Plastics Engineering Company in Sheboygan retiring in 1994.
Vern lived his entire life in Sheboygan Falls serving on the Sheboygan Falls Park Board, member of Post 149 American Legion Sheboygan Falls, managed the ice rink at River Park, served as a referee for the United Football League, president of the Blazer League at Town and Country Golf Club, member of the Sheboygan Falls Old Timers, played on several fast and slow pitch softball teams in the area, and loved pheasant hunting in South Dakota and deer hunting at the family cabin in Pembine, Wisconsin. Vern was a huge Packer fan and sports enthusiast, but his pride and joy was attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and school activities.
Vern is survived by his wife Beverly of 65 years, his four children Debra (Brian) Fiebig of Neenah, WI; Jim (Jeane) Endsley of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Wally (Charlet) Endsley of Sheboygan Falls, Michael Endsley of Sheboygan, and sister Janet (Henry) Blanke of Plymouth, WI. Nine grandchildren Alison Fiebig, Appleton, WI; Chase Fiebig, Neenah, WI; Cameron Fiebig, Menasha, WI; Nick (Erika) Endsley, Oakwood, OH; Evan (Alex) Endsley, Williamsburg, VA; Andrew Endsley, Wauwatosa, WI and Kathryn Endsley, Sheboygan Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Mary Endsley, and siblings Robert, John and Jeane Endsley, and in-laws Wallace and Charlotte Wenzlick.
Vern and Beverly shared a passion for travel from Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest to New England and the Caribbean. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and he will be remembered for his lifelong friendships, sense of humor and raisin cinnamon buns at Johnston’s Bakery.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Vern during his final journey.
A celebration of Vern’s life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church,, 730 County Highway PPP, Sheboygan Falls with visitation at 1:30PM, service at 3:30PM and dinner to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Vern’s name to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Sheboygan County Veteran’s Memorial.
The Olson Funeral Home and Cremation Service has been entrusted with Vern’s arrangements.
