LaVerne E. Carter, 92, formerly of 2216 N. 4th Street, Sheboygan, died Monday morning, September 15, 2014 at the Sheboygan Senior Community. She was born in Sheboygan on December 11, 1921, a daughter of the late Albert and Meta (Kuhnert) Pohl. In 1939, LaVerne graduated with the first class of North High School. She continued to be active with the North High School Class of '39 reunion committee. LaVerne and Leslie E. Carter were united in marriage on April 15, 1944 in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1975. LaVerne was employed as a salesperson at Sears and the former H.C. Prange Company. She was a member of St. John's UCC and was a past president of its Women's Guild. Laverne also was a long time volunteer at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and a member of the Sheboygan County Historical Society. Surviving LaVerne are two nieces, Nancy Veenendaal and Connie (Charles) Mehan, both of Sheboygan; great nieces and nephew, Barbara (Todd) Anderson, Carin (Thomas) Propson and Mark (Jen) Veenendaal and their children; God child, Karen (Clarence) Hammen; many cousins and special friends. Laverne was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice A. Pohl. A Funeral Service will be held for LaVerne at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan. Reverend Greg Whelton, pastor of St. John's UCC, will officiate. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Olson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. In Lieu of flowers,it is requested that memorial gifts be made to the organization of the donor's choice in LaVerne's name. The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with LaVerne's arrangements.
