Justus was born on September 6, 1992, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and made his home in Sheboygan, where he built a life centered around love, laughter, family, friendship, and helping others. In just 33 years, he lived more boldly, loved more fiercely, and left a bigger mark on the people around him than many do in a lifetime.

If you knew Justus, you know there will never be another one like him.

He was so loud. He laughed with his whole body. He loved with everything he had. He didn't care if people understood him or agreed with him because he never pretended to be anyone other than himself. He was unapologetically, authentically Justus. He had an infectious smile, a contagious laugh, and a personality that could fill any room. He was the kind of person who made ordinary moments unforgettable simply by being there.

Above everything else, Justus loved his family.

He was the devoted husband and best friend of Katie Sherman. Together they built a life filled with love, resilience, and purpose. Side by side, they helped others find hope while creating countless memories of their own. Whether they were taking random late-night drives, cooking out with friends, watching movies, laughing until they cried, or simply enjoying a quiet evening together, those were the moments that meant the most.

He was incredibly proud to be the father of Brodie, Judson, and Mateo, and a loving stepfather to Selena and Celestina. Being with his kids was where his heart was happiest. He didn't need extravagant plans or expensive vacations. As long as he was surrounded by the people he loved, he was home.

Music was the soundtrack to Justus's life. Whether he was driving with the windows down or relaxing at home, you could almost always find him listening to Juice WRLD, Lil Peep, or $uicideBoy$. Their music resonated with him, and those songs will forever remind so many of the man who sang every word (out of tune but he didn't care), turned the volume up, and lived every day with no regrets.

He loved spending time outdoors, playing video games, talking about cars, cooking out, and making memories with the people closest to him. He was always ready for a spontaneous adventure because, to him, it wasn't about where you were going, it was about who was going with you.

Justus also leaves behind his parents, Frank Sherman and Kris Reidy; his second mom Carol; his siblings, Westley and Grace; in-laws Kevin and Sharon and countless extended family members, lifelong friends, and members of the recovery community whose lives are forever changed because they knew him.

One of Justus's greatest passions was helping others. Alongside his wife, Katie, he helped establish recovery meetings and co-founded Sheboygan County's International Overdose Awareness Day. Recovery wasn't just something he believed in, it was something he lived and fought for every day. He believed that everyone deserved another chance, that hope should never be out of reach, and that no one should have to face addiction alone. His compassion, encouragement, and willingness to stand beside people during their darkest moments touched countless lives.

He was also incredibly proud of becoming a maintenance mechanic. He worked hard every day to provide for his family, and he took pride in everything he did. His determination and work ethic were just another reflection of how deeply he cared for the people he loved.

What many people will remember most isn't one single accomplishment. They'll remember the sound of his laugh. They'll remember his giant heart, his honesty, his stubbornness, his unforgettable sense of humor, and the way he could make everyone around him laugh even on their hardest days.

The world feels quieter without him.

Our family feels smaller.

Our hearts are forever changed.

But love like Justus gave doesn't disappear. It lives on in every story we tell, every song that reminds us of him, every spontaneous adventure we take, every laugh we share, and every person who chooses hope because of the example he set.

Thank you, Justus, for loving so deeply, laughing so loudly, and reminding us all that the best way to live is to be unapologetically yourself.

You were our home.

You were our laughter.

You were our heart.

You will be loved beyond words, missed beyond measure, and remembered for every moment of every day.

A Celebration of Justus' Life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Deland Park in Sheboygan. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 1:00 pm. A reception and cookout will follow immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Justus's memory by supporting someone in recovery, carrying naloxone, offering compassion instead of judgment, and reminding those who are struggling that they are never alone. There is no greater tribute to the life he lived than helping another person find hope.
