Joyce C. Konkel, 95, of Sheboygan, passed away early Sunday morning, November 13, 2016 at Sunny Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center where she had been residing.
Born September 4, 1921 in Calumet, MI, Joyce was a daughter of the late Joseph and Emma Zurheidi Wagner. She attended area schools and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1939. On July 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Konkel at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. They were married for 10 years before Joseph preceded her in death on April 8, 1966 following a lengthy illness. Joyce lived in Sheboygan for most of her life, but spent a few years living in Neenah, WI.
Joyce worked for the H.C. Prange Co. for many years. She was also a volunteer foster grandparent. She was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and at the V.W.F. Post 9156 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo (Charles) Meyer, Maineville, OH, her two grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Ian) Hansen, Waukesha, WI and Joseph (Bethanie) Meyer, Milwaukee, WI. She is also survived by her dear friend and "other" daughter, Janelle (Ronald) Gooding, Sheboygan, WI, and their children, Amber (Zaman) Khan, Skokie, IL, Holly Franklin, Sheboygan WI, and Tina Gooding, Sheboygan, WI, as well as many relatives and friends that were an important part of her life.
Besides her parents and her husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by her five brothers, Albert, Carlos, Wesley, Marvin and Alden Wagner, her two sisters, Delilah Honald and Violet Westphal, and her best friends and companions Margaret and Carl Franz.
Funeral services for Joyce will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Alan Kretshcmar will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Joyce's arrangements.
