Joan M. (Melger) Schulze, 81, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday morning, May 17, 2016 at Country Side Manor in Sheboygan.
Born February 7, 1935 in Sheboygan, Joan was the daughter of the late Paul and Velesca (Wirth) Melger. She graduated from Central High School in 1954. On September 27, 1958, she was united in marriage to the late James G. Schulze at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kohler.
Joan worked at Rogers Crocker and Sills Portrait Studios respectively. Later she became a full-time homemaker because her family was her priority. Prior to marriage she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and School where she sang in the school and senior choir and for a short time the Lutheran Choruses. After marriage she became a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Swimming and free-hand drawing were her passions and she also enjoyed music, reading, sewing, gardening, and outings with the family. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons, Alan and David (Nancy) Schulze, both of Sheboygan: her grandchildren, Tyler (Kelly), Chantel, Lukas, and James Schulze, all of Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is further survived by her former daughter-in-law Rhonda Schulze, Sheboygan Falls. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James, her brother Merlin (Mickey) Melger, and sister Nancy (Melger) Kent.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 21st & Geele Avenue. Fr. Philip Reifenberg will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Mass. Private family interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Kohler.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to Country Side Manor and St. Nicholas Hospital Hospice for compassion and care that was given to Joan during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been set up in her name.
