Joan B. Denk

Joan B. Denk, nee Matousek, 80, of Sheboygan, died on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Born August 1, 1936 in Chicago, IL, Joan was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Grace K (Houcek) Matousek. She attended Cicero, IL, area schools and graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in 1954. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she studied nursing and met her future husband. On September 6, 1958, she was united in marriage to Joseph E. Denk at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Cicero.
Joan was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, quilting and was an avid reader. She was a past president and member of the Sheboygan County Quilters Guild and the Variable Stars Club. She was also a member of the Trillium Quilt Guild of Door County. Joan and Joe were members of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Joan said she spent most of her life living near the western shore of Lake Michigan, including Chicago, Milwaukee, Sheboygan and Door County. She enjoyed spending time in Door County, especially on Washington Island.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe; her four children, Joseph (Kathryn) Denk, Jr, of Memphis, TN, and their children, Jennifer Denk, Austin, TX, and Jodi Denk, Bristol, CT, Jonathan (Nancy) Denk, Waukesha, and their children, Kelly Denk, Wauwatosa, and Jonathan J. Denk, Waukesha, Janine (Michael) Myers, Northville, MI, and their children, Grace (Scott) Casteel, Fayetteville, AR, Alexander Myers, Ann Arbor, MI, and Diane Myers, Northville, MI, and Jennifer (Patrick) Dickinson, Waukesha, and their children, Laura and Joseph Dickinson, both of Waukesha; her great grandson, Noah Casteel, Fayetteville, AR; and her nephew, Albert (Milita) Matousek, III, Strongsville, OH.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Joseph and Loretta Denk and her brother, Albert Matousek, Jr.
A memorial service for Joan will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Chapel of Eternal Light, 6706 Superior Avenue, Kohler, WI. Father Philip D. Reifenberg will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the chapel on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in the Chapel of Eternal Light.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for Northern Sky Theater (formerly American Folklore Theater) in Fish Creek, WI, the Clinical Cancer Center at Froedtert Medical Center and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Special thanks for the great care Dr. Kumar provided through the years and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their loving care and support in her final days. May God bless all of you for your great work.
