Jerome Richard Ballschmider, age 54, of Mill Valley, CA passed away on March 19, 2025.
Born on June 24, 1970, in Sheboygan, WI, Jerry was the son of Robert Ballschmider and Mary Jo McBrearty.
From an early age, Jerry found his rhythm in basketball and the friendships it helped create. From foundational days with the YMCA and St. Clement’s, to Whiz Kids, to pickup games in Milwaukee and legendary seasons with the Sheboygan North Golden Raiders, his love for the game and the bonds he formed were both lifelong.
He graduated from Marquette University and earned a Master’s Degree in Economics at New York University. He went on to a career in finance which took him to Chicago, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong. Jerry thrived in these cities, embracing the fast-paced energy of his work and the vibrancy of urban living. In the workplace, he was highly respected for his intelligence and integrity, and built lasting relationships with his colleagues.
Jerry was known for his adventurous spirit and love of travel. Whether it was camping and devouring fish tacos in Baja, running a marathon in Tokyo, exploring the temples of Angkor Wat with armed guards, or hunting down a beach in Ecuador that he read about in Outside Magazine, he was up for anything. He felt at home in Asia, and took full advantage of the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the region.
Jerry was an incredible dad who threw himself into all of his sons’ interests, whether it be mountain biking, soccer, going to see live music, or seeking out new restaurants and foods. He always went above and beyond and loved nothing more than spending time with the boys and encouraging their passions.
Jerry was survived by his parents, Bob and Mary Jo, wife Kathleen Brennan, sons J.P. and Julian, sister Katy Russell (Steve) and many loving in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
If anyone wished to memorialize Jerry, gifts to the Sheboygan YMCA Endowment Fund are appreciated.
