James A. Prescott, Sr., 74, of Sheboygan, passed away Monday evening, February 20, 2017 at the Dove Healthcare Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls, WI.
Born January 4, 1943 in Corinth, Mississippi, James was a son of the late James and Emily Messner Prescott. He attended grade schools in Corinth and graduated from Chicago Vocational School in Chicago. He then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Teddy D. Roosevelt. On January 17, 1970, he was united in marriage to Geraldine A. Schreiner in Chicago, IL. They were married for 40 years before Geraldine preceded him in death on May 29, 2010.
Jim was a Journeyman A Mechanic for 25 years, working at TransAmerica in Chicago before his retirement. He was a member of the Local 701 in Chicago. He was also a member of St. Maurice Church in Chicago and Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Jim enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, and was a scout master and baseball coach for his son, Jim. He loved music and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful storyteller, had a strong sense of humor and was well traveled. He was "Poppa" to many. He was very proud to have served his country and will always be remembered as a southern gentleman.
He is survived by his four children; his son James A. (fiancé Laura Ernster) Prescott, Jr., and his children, James III, Waylon, Amelia, Jeremiah and Alina; his oldest daughter, Jennifer, who preceded him in death, and her children, Amanda and her sons Nikolae and Nolan, Kathryne, John, Steven, Elizabeth and Rylee; his daughter Elizabeth (Joe) Prescott Rabon and her children, Mia, Joey, Jaime, Kamryn, Alex and Jesse; his daughter Christine (fiancé Robert Sandholm) Prescott and her children, Sara, Frederick, Rita, and Jessica; and his daughter Sara Kathryne Prescott, all of Sheboygan; his brother, Larry (Shirley) Prescott, Bridgeview, IL; his sister, Diane Koszyk, Batesville, MS; his brother-in-law, Richard (Irene) Schreiner, Raleigh, NC; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Terry) Polojewski, Joliet, IL, and Carol (Jim) Plana, Burbank, IL; lifelong friends, the Finley family; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife Geraldine, and his daughter, Jennifer, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samantha Prescott, his brother, Gene Prescott and his sister, Sue Royal.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Holy Name of Jesus, 818 Huron Avenue. Family and friends are welcome at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue, on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery.
