Imelda Broeckert Scharenbroch

April 11, 1926 — January 27, 2023

It is always difficult to say goodbye to someone we love and cherish. However, with heavy hearts, family and friends say “farewell” to Imelda “Tillie” Scharenbroch, age 96, who passed away on January 27, 2023.
She was born on Easter Sunday, April 11, 1926 in St. Nazianz, WI, daughter of the late Edward and Clara Gutman Broeckert. Imelda graduated from Valders High School, class of 1944. On October 27th, 1951, she married Andrew Scharenbroch at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. He preceded her January 19th, 1984.
Imelda was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church since 1955. She was employed at H.C. Prange Corporate Office for 18 years and then at the office of The John Michael Kohler Arts Center for 21 years, retiring in April 2015, at age 89!
Survivors include her children Tom [Ruth] Scharenbroch, Sheboygan, Mark [Mary] Scharenbroch, Janesville, WI and Jane [Dr. George] Jumes, Appleton, WI, and ten grandchildren: Andy [Cindy], Marshfield, WI, Matthew [Steph], Neenah, WI, Amy [Adam] Groener, Mt. Horeb, WI, Katie [Christopher] Russo, Sheboygan, and Peter [Elise], Cross Plains, WI, Kevin [Shauna], Waunakee, WI, Mark “BJ” [Tess], West Salem, WI, and Christopher Jumes, Sheboygan, Andrea Jumes, Wauwatosa, WI, and David Jumes, Downers Grove, IL and 14 great-grandchildren.
Imelda, the youngest of nine children, was preceded in death by infant brother Alphonse Broeckert, two sisters, Hilary [Norbert] Seipel, Sr. Roman O.S.F. Broeckert and five brothers, Rembert “Humpy” [Angie], Bernard [Ruth], Arthur [Joan], Edward [Mary Ellen], Roman [Eleanor], all in-laws and an infant grandson, Patrick Scharenbroch.
She was a more than 50 year member of both Catholic [Knights] Financial Life Organization and the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters. Imelda was a devoted Catholic, watching multiple masses daily and always having a rosary and holy water nearby.
Most of all, Mom will be remembered for her love of family. She was a wonderful baker, having no less than three desserts at any gathering, and also known for her infamous vegetable soup and scalloped potatoes. Christmas was her special holiday, with mountains of presents under her tree. Little ones always left with a “treat bag” and grandkids were sent back to college with a bucket of chex mix and puppy chow. Family members knew not to call her when Wheel of Fortune was on, especially during the introductions. She was happiest during basketball and baseball seasons and at night could always be found working a word search before bedtime, with a freshly sharpened pencil!
She will be fondly remembered for her acute attention to detail, not willing to let anyone leave empty handed with something delicious she baked, and keeping those she knew close to her.
Imelda left this world peacefully, in her lifelong home of 67 years. It is with special gratitude we thank her am and pm helpers: Jane, Kathy, Teresa, Marne and Diane. We are grateful for their compassion, respect and care, enabling her to stay in her beloved home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 21st & Geele Avenue. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
You are loved beyond words, will never be forgotten and will be dearly missed.
Kommen Sie Gut Heim!
