Hilbert "Lefty" Kuitert, 88, of Sheboygan, died peacefully Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Morningside Health Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born August 25, 1925, in Garyp Friesland, Netherlands, Hilbert was a son of the late Jasper and Richtje Gorter Kuitert. On June 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to Helen Stroschein at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Hilbert served his country during W.W.II in the U.S. Coast Guard serving on the PA 33 Troop Transport in the Pacific Theatre. Hilbert was employed by the Vollrath Company as a Metal Press operator for 42 years, retiring in 1988. Hilbert was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and had served as an elder. He also enjoyed camping, bowling and pitching horseshoes. He is survived by his wife Helen; five children, Barb (Lee) Gumm, Kohler, Nancy Mayer, Sheboygan Falls, Peggy (Steve) Hotz, Sheboygan, Jean Wychesit, Sheboygan, John (Tammy) Kuitert, Sheboygan, ten grandchildren Kari (Chris) Bonde, Manitowoc, Tim (Colleen) Gumm, Sheboygan Falls, Chris (George) Asher, Wildwood, MO, Jason Mayer, Sheboygan Falls, Kim (Travis) Selby, Plymouth, Aaron (Claire) Hotz, Middleton, WI, Patrick Wychesit, Sheboygan, Mallory (Adam) Wrenn, Sheboygan, Erik Kuitert, Fort Collins, CO, Kelly Kuitert, Sheboygan; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude (Robert) Reinholz, Sheboygan; three sisters-in-law Violet Kuitert, Sheboygan, Nancy Kuitert, Sheboygan, Mary Alice Kuitert, Fond du Lac, WI; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Timm, Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Linda; five brothers, Jacob, Claus (Irma), George, Elmer and Bill Kuitert; two sisters, Wilma Timm and Alice (Robert) Haartman, one sister-in-law, Gladys (Robert) Kuenne. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Olson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Ave. The Rev. James Hartman, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, will officiate. Relatives and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in Garden Terrace Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
