Helen E. Larson, 93, of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017, at her home.
Born March 16, 1924 in Sheboygan, Helen was a daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Greig Healy. She attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Robert O. "Tony" Larson on June 8, 1946 in Sheboygan at The First Presbyterian Church. They were married for 51 years before Tony preceded her in death on July 15, 1997.
After graduating from high school, Helen worked for the H.C. Prange Co. in the cosmetics department as the "Charles of the Ritz Girl". Following her marriage, she was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. In later years, she joined her husband as the office manager for the family business, Vikwood, LTD. She was a member of First Congregational Church U.C.C. for 69 years. She was an active member of the Deborah Circle and was instrumental in starting the Pilgrim Pre School, taught Sunday School and served on various boards and committees over the years. She also belonged to the Sheboygan Service Club, the Shoreline Women's Club, the Sheboygan Yacht Club, the Elks Club and the Sheboygan Dancing Club. The Little Red School house was a project near and dear to her heart, and she supported its mission for many years.
Mom did many things really well. She enjoyed gardening and the arts, which included weaving, knitting, ceramics, making special holiday decorations and painting. These included many afghans and baby blankets for her family, painted ceramic, rosemaling, and was an excellent seamstress. She was a wonderful hostess and cook who loved to entertain in their home. She excelled at sports, including bowling and golfing where she was the Women's Club Champion at Town & Country. She was an avid fan of all sports, especially cheering for the Brewers, Packers and the Badgers. She looked forward to her frequent bridge games where she was a valued partner. Helen and Tony loved to travel around the world where they made so many wonderful friendships, both near and far. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Christine (Jeff) Eisenbooth, Kohler, Dr. Christopher (Randi) Larson, Sheboygan, Amy Larson, Milwaukee, and Anders Larson, Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Dr. Todd (Dr. Liz Zurich) Larson, Sheboygan, Dr. Andrew (Andrea) Larson, Waunakee, Heide (Mark) Schmalz, Appleton, and Erika Larson, Los Angeles; five great grandchildren, Jack and Maxine Schmalz, Ben and Zachary Larson, and Paige Larson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Lorraine Wassink, and her brother Roland Healy.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the First Congregational Church, 310 Bluff Ave, Sheboygan. The Rev. James Hollister will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
