Helen E. Kuitert, 92, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday evening, March 1, 2016 at Morningside Health Care Center where she had been residing the past five years.
Born May 2, 1923 in Sheboygan, Helen was a daughter of the late Barney and Meta Drews Stroschein. She attended area schools and graduated from Central High School in 1941. On June 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to Hilbert Kuitert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. They were married for 65 years before Hilbert preceded her in death on January 29, 2014.
Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed crafting, bowling and camping, especially at Little Silver Lake with her husband and family. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and also a member of the Mother's Club and the Lutheran Chorus. She volunteered at Bethesda Thrift Store. Helen was an accomplished seamstress who made all of her children's wedding dresses and bridal party dresses. She also sewed many gifts for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Barb (Lee) Gumm, Kohler, Nancy (special friend Dave Garcia) Mayer, Sheboygan Falls, Peggy (Steve) Hotz, Sheboygan, Jean (special friend Michael Staerkel) Wychesit, Sheboygan, John (Tammy) Kuitert, Sheboygan, ten grandchildren Kari (Chris) Bonde, Manitowoc, Tim (Colleen) Gumm, Sheboygan Falls, Chris (George) Asher, Wildwood, MO, Jason Mayer, Sheboygan Falls, Kim (Travis) Selby, Sheboygan, Aaron (Claire) Hotz, Middleton, WI, Patrick (special friend Lisa Marksman) Wychesit, Sheboygan, Mallory (Adam) Wrenn, Sheboygan, Erik Kuitert, Fort Collins, CO, and Kelly (fiancé Lino Gonzalez) Kuitert, Sheboygan; fourteen great grandchildren; in-laws, Violet Kuitert, Sheboygan, Nancy Kuitert, Sheboygan, Mary Alice Kuitert, Fond du Lac, Kenneth Timm, Sheboygan, and Gertrude Reinholz, Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Hilbert, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda, her sister Gladys (Robert) Kuenne, brothers-in-law, Jacob, Claus, George, Elmer and Bill Kuitert and Robert Reinholz, sisters-in-law, Irma Kuitert, Alice (Robert) Haartman, and Wilma Timm, and three nephews.
Funeral services for Helen will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Alan Kubow will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place in Garden Terrace Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
