Helen M. Bogenhagen

February 22, 1924 — May 2, 2018

Helen M. Bogenhagen, age 94 of Sheboygan Falls passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning May 2, 2018 at the Pine Haven Covenant Home where she had been residing.

One would never know it to look at her, a petite, humble and above all, kind woman. But Helen was the finest example of strength, fortitude and perseverance. She had a iron will with her foundation set in an absolutely unmovable faith.

Her love for her God and family was her north star. She was a selfless mother whose love had no bounds. The daughter of George & Anna Ernst, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold F. Bogenhagen. Together they had six children but Harold died in 1966. From that dark hour Helen rose to become a fierce and tireless super Mom.

Her's was a life of faithfulness and service to her children, parents, church and community. She sang for many years in her church choir and was a soloist at many church services, weddings and funerals. Music was her joy, she had a song for every occasion. To her last days a song was never far from her lips. She was the first woman on the church council at her beloved St. Marks Lutheran Church and was instrumental in gaining the right of women to vote in church matters. Helen loved her work as a volunteer reading helper at Wilson Elementary School. Bowling, golf and gardening were among her hobbies, but most important to her was her dedication to her children.

Helen is survived by five children; Dan (Debrah) Bogenhagen of Stony Brook, NY, Nancy (Kevin) Grady of Port Washington, Amy (Mike) Bero of Green Bay, Bill (Lynn) Bogenhagen of Middleton and Linda (Charlie) Belz of Brooklyn; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a sister in law, Alice Ernst of Sheboygan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold (Bogie), her daughter Susan M. Grosnick, a granddaughter Rebecca Belz and her brother George Ernst.

Funeral services for Helen will be held at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1019 N. 7th Street, Sheboygan. the Rev. Brett Matz will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Lutheran Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in Helen's name.

Helen's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Pine Haven Covenant Home, Prairie Crossing Assisted Living and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Finally and most importantly, special thanks to Aunt Alice Ernst, who was a stalwart companion, who allowed Mom to stay in her own home for longer than would otherwise have been possible.
