Grant R. Mayer

Grant R. Mayer, 81, of  Sheboygan, joined his many loved ones in heaven on December 12, 2023.
Grant was born in Sheboygan, WI on January 7, 1942. His childhood memories on the Mayer family farm are some of his fondest memories. Grant graduated from Central High class of 1960 and enlisted in the Army shortly after. He was married to Lynne Goetsch on May 2, 1964, at St. Wendel Catholic Church in Cleveland, WI. Together they raised three children and created many loving memories.
Grant was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. He never missed a Packer game and openly admitted that he coached from his chair. He was a life member of Elk’s Lodge #299, a past Elk of the Year, and a member of the Elk's National Foundation where he enjoyed his many friendships and the philanthropy. Grant spent his working years driving truck for both VanDerVart and Kohler Company. He retired from Kohler Company in 2007 to spend more time with his loving family.
Grant is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Lynne; children Kim (Scott) Williams and Amy (Erik) Mikkelson; grandchildren Katie (Ken) Sharpe, Jacob (Alissa) Williams, Kristi (Tyler) Seidl, Hilary Mayer, Paige,Claire, and William Mikkelson; great grandchildren, Jack and Piper Sharpe and Mable Seidl. He is further survived by his siblings, twin brother Gary (Leoetta) Mayer, Geraldine Cook, Joseph (Joanne) Mayer, Jr., Margaret Mayer. Ralph (Donna) Mayer. and Marilyn Mayer (Michael Kniffin); his sisters-in-law Debbie Mayer, Karen (Tom) Ruppel, Kathy (Mike) Lesicko, and Jean (Jerry) Haese.
He was preceded in death by his son Steven Mayer; parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Mayer; his brother, Jeffrey Mayer; his mother and father in-law, Harvey and Esther Goetsch, his sister-in-law Bonnie (Tom) Berlin; a brother-in-law Robert Cook; and a nephew Robert Cook, Jr.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Avenue, Sheboygan. The Elks Lodge #299 memorial service will take place at 3:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Mass. A reception will follow the Mass.
Memorials can be made to Samaritan Hands in honor of his son, Steven or National MS Society in honor of Grant’s relatives.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Grant's arrangements.
