Gottlieb Knaub

Gottlieb "Ace" Knaub, 95, of Sheboygan, passed away Friday evening, May 27, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 20, 1921 in Sheboygan, Gottlieb was a son of the late John and Katie Bauer Knaub. He attended area schools and graduated from Central High School. He then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army from February 1943 to March 1946. Ace had the opportunity to take the Honor Flight to Washington, DC. This was a proud moment for him and for the many heroes he represented. On October 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Selma Schmidt in Waukegan, IL.
Ace worked at Armira for over 40 years before his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing tennis, running and biking. He and Sally loved to walk, and could be seen walking around the neighborhood. He was also a volunteer Deputy Sheriff for Sheboygan County. Following his retirement, he and Sally loved to travel around the country and taking the grandchildren camping. They also enjoyed playing dominoes with family and dear friends.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sally, Sheboygan; his children, Timothy (Diane) Knaub, Scituate, MA, Peggy (Don) Wagner, Middleton, and John (Kay) Knaub, Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Theresa (James) Gallagher, Sarah (Jason) Jerome, DeForest, WI, Ryan (Laura) Wagner, Milton, WI, Christopher (Lea) Knaub, Sussex, and Erika (Paul) Hintz, Shorewood; his grandson-in-law, Chris Lake, PA; ten great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, and two grandchildren, Stephanie Lake and Eric Knaub.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Chapel of Eternal Light, 6706 Superior Avenue, Kohler. The Rev. Marcus Powers will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the chapel on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in the Chapel of Eternal Light.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for St. Nicholas Home Health & Hospice or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St. Nicholas Home Health & Hospice and Terrace Place for all of their loving care and support.
Grandpa Ace could light up a room with his joy and charm. He always had such a drive to live and truly loved life and above all, his family meant the world to him and he touched the hearts of so many.
