Glen R. Hammerschmidt, Sr., 73, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away Thursday morning, November 15, 2018 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Born January 8, 1945 in Sheboygan, Glen was a son of the late Elroy and Glendora Hammerschmidt. He attended grade school in the Town of Schleswig and graduated from Kiel High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. In 1965, he married Arlene Neuhaus. On October 21, 1977, he was united in marriage to Doris M. Gannigan Kohlhagen.
Glen was an over the road truck driver for many years before his retirement in 2007 from Wisconsin Nationwide. He was an active member of Fountain Park United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He enjoyed woodworking and making maple syrup for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, Sheboygan Falls; his two sons, Glen Hammerschmidt, Jr., Kiel, and Robert (Tammy) Hammerschmidt, Elkhart Lake; two stepsons, Dr. Glen (Lynn) Kohlhagen, Plymouth, and David Kohlhagen, Sheboygan Falls; three grandchildren, Christy (Brandon) Staab, MN, Calley Kohlhagen, MN, Taylor Kohlhagen, Plymouth, a great grandson, Gordon Staab, MN; his in-laws, Shirley (Del) Dassow, Sheboygan Falls, Beverly (Demo) Van Engen, Sheboygan Falls, Betty Mavis, Sheboygan Falls and Leslie Gannigan, Plover; nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Dennis Kohlhagen, and his two sisters, Jean and Kathy.
A memorial service for Glen will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or the Camo Quilt Project of Plymouth.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
