Gervase M. Brown, 95, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Countryside Manor where he had been residing.
Born September 27, 1920 in Highland Park, IL, Gervase was a son of the late Gervase and Edna Langer Brown. He attended schools in Highland Park, IL and graduated from Highland Park High School. He then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946. He served as a radar mechanic in the Asiatic Pacific where he received the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On July 11, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marguerite Moldaner in Highland Park, IL. They were married for 62 years before Marguerite preceded him in death on February 6, 2011.
Gervase worked as an assembler at Fluid Power Systems in Wheeling, IL. He previously worked as a package designer at Morris Paper Mills in Melrose Park, IL. He was a member of Immaculate Conception in Sheboygan and St. Joseph the Worker in Wheeling, IL. He held a private pilots license and volunteered as the first commanding officer of the Glenview U.S.N. Sea Cadet Program for teenagers and commander of the Deerfield Sea Explorer program. In his retirement, he organized after school youth programs for grade school children. His hobbies included Mississippi River steam boats and aviation history. He enjoyed spending time outdoors caring for the wildlife.
He is survived by his children, Betsy (Jeff) Appelt, Sheboygan, and Gervase P. Brown, Buffalo Grove, IL; two grandchildren, Michael (Natalie) Appelt, Atlanta, GA, and Amy (Keith) Longwell, Beach Park, IL; two great grandchildren, Renee and Michaela Appelt; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Gervase will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, WI. Full military honors will follow. Burial will take place in the Veteran Memorial Cemetery.
