Gary L. Bretzmann

Gary L. Bretzmann, 77, formerly of Sheboygan Falls, passed away Sunday morning, September 18, 2016 at CLE-Haven in Cudahy where he had been residing.
Born March 12, 1939 in Lakefield, MN, Gary was a son of the late Julius and Martha Schulze Bretzmann. He attended area schools and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1957. He continued his education at the Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis, MN. On March 12, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marlene D. Pirrung in Chicago, IL.
Gary worked for the State of Wisconsin in the Motor Vehicle Department for 15 years, retiring in 2001. He previously worked for United Airlines and as a realtor with Gottsacker Real Estate. He was a former member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the noon Kiwanis Club and the National Association of Realtors. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Packers and the Brewers and loved attending his boys' soccer games and the Sheboygan North basketball games. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, day trips, classic movies, listening to big band music and rides past the lake. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and loved to tell you all about them. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlene, New Berlin; his two sons, Dean (Debbie) Bretzmann and Jason (Chris) Bretzmann, both of New Berlin; three grandchildren, Max, Jack and Cooper Bretzmann, all of New Berlin; his brothers, Willis (Mary Lou) Bretzmann, Eugene, OR, and Juel (fiancé Candice McDaniel) Bretzmann, Carrolton, GA; his brothers-in-law, Gary (special friend Colleen Levine) Pirrung, Roy (Chris) Pirrung, and Don (Joann) Pirrung, all of Sheboygan; cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is further survived by his dog, Ollie. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Theckla Pirrung, his father-in-law, Lee Pirrung, sisters-in-law, Sandy and Gail Pirrung, a nephew, Scott Bretzmann, nieces, Joan and Judy, uncles Ulrich and Max Schulze, an aunt, Ada Schulze, and a cousin, Don Schulze.
Funeral services for Gary will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Lorri Steward will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place in the Chapel of Eternal Light.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
Marlene and her family wish to express a heartfelt thank you to family, friends and neighbors, especially Ginny Nyhuis with the Alzheimer's Association, Marlene's support group and the Aging & Disability Resource Center. And to the nurses and staff of CLE-Haven and Heartland Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
