Frederick E. Grunow, 88, of Sheboygan, passed away Friday afternoon, July 22, 2016 at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 17, 1927 in Sheboygan Frederick was a son of the late William and Rose Richter Grunow. He attended Sheboygan area schools. He then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Merchant Marines during W.W.II. On February 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Irene A. Hartman in the Town of Meeme.
Lumber worked for the Levitan Fruit Company for over 38 years before his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Sheboygan where he volunteered as a Boy Scout leader, Troop 20. He enjoyed hunting and taking fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota. He enjoyed spending time fishing at the Sheboygan quarry.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene, Sheboygan; his six children, Gary (Marge) Grunow, Sheboygan, Bonnie (Larry) Paplham, Franklin, Dave (Honore Harvey) Grunow, Milwaukee, Glen Grunow, Sheboygan Falls, Patty (Dave) Paasch, Sheboygan, and Penny (Tim) Johnson, Sheboygan; nine grandchildren, Gary (Tara Resser) Grunow, Dawn (Darwin) Higgins, Wendy Grunow-Giesler, Crystal (Geoff Sdano) Paasch, Nicole Paasch, Sarah Paasch, Trevor Johnson, Alex Johnson and Drew Johnson; three step-grandchildren, Ann (Tom) Leary, Steve Osmanski and Emma Osmanski; seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; four sisters, Bernetta Mihelnik, Sheboygan, Mary Ann Lampe, Sheboygan, Rose Carlson, Gillett and Carol (Leroy) Onnink, Sheboygan; in-laws, Gerald (Sharon) Hartman, Janice Hartman, and Ronald Hartman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, William (Hermina) Grunow, Karl (Virginia) Grunow, Gerald (Edna & Marlene) Grunow and Ronald Grunow; six sisters, Irene (Elmer) Krueger, Laverne (August Wilke & Edmund) Awe, Delores (Bill) Heitzmann, Dorothy (Bob) Pfeiffer, Betty (Frank) Post and Shirley (Earl) Abraham; five brothers-in-law, Louis Mihelnik, Orville Lampe, Carl Carlson, Merlin Hartman and Elroy Hartman; and one sister-in-law, Doris (Merlin) DeSmidt.
Funeral services for Frederick will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Alan Kretschmar will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for the Alzheimer's Association.
