After getting married and having children of her own, she blessed us with many happy memories of going to the farm by Grandma and Grandpa Dassow. We enjoyed spending countless hours playing in the barn or in the oat shed, finding baby kittens, or playing at the creek. Grandpa would take us fishing with cane poles at the river or take us to get some fresh cheese curds. Grandma would sew dresses, bake bread, cakes and pies. She also knitted mittens, scarves and hats for each and everyone of us. The place where our mother was born and grew up has been a blessing to all of her children. We also have wonderful memories with our cousins, aunts and uncles.

Later in life Evelyn became a grandmother. If anyone knows Evelyn, they would swear bleach was her best friend, but she could always make the wash smell so good. The grandchildren just loved to smell Grandma’s clean towels and bed sheets. But mind you Evelyn and Stewart all so liked treating their grandchildren to the bakery, what the heck everything smelled good there too. Evelyn was always thankful for the man she married, because Stewart would rock all the grandchildren when they were babies, he would feed them, play silly games with them, and when they got older and had children of their own, he rocked those babies too.

Her life with Stewart started at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls and later at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. They both spent many years there. Their love for God and Jesus Christ was never wavering. They believed where there is love there is hope. They both made many memories during the many hours they spent there helping in any way that they could. Evelyn was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and was active in Leah Circle and Altar Guild. Some would say mom came there with her bottle of bleach and was on a true mission from God and as long as she was alive she wasn’t having any dirty linens on the alter, Anita Knaub will tell you “Evelyn always got her way”. A Memorial Fund has been established in her name for St. Peter Lutheran Church. Please direct all Memorials to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2104 Geele Avenue, Sheboygan, WI 53081.

There are many stories to tell you from her years at Regency Apartments also, she was dubbed the Burger King Queen and refused to share any of her food with Joe, he just loved to tease her. Joe and Mary always held a special place in mom’s heart. She never failed to call Jane when Joe was being naughty. She would laugh so hard when Mary told him “that’s enough”.

If there is one place Evelyn had to go no matter what (we kids all had to wait and it didn’t matter what we had going on) was Beatie’s Beauty Salon. Judy always made time for mom, even at Sunny Ridge. Judy, even though she had been on her feet all day, would still go and take care of her friend Evelyn. Judy is one very special lady.

At the end of her life she said, James, Janet, Gloria, Jeanie, Jo Ann David and Joyce it’s time for your Aunt Evelyn to go now, I love you all so much. She prayed for Barbara, Vickie, Mike and David, and prayed for Judy to be strong, there has been so much sorrow and pain this year, we have lost so many loved ones.

Evelyn has now been reunited with her husband. Evelyn has prayed for her country, church, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her hope and her love was that all of us would have eternal life in God’s Kingdom. According to her wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Evelyn will be laid to rest in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Hwy 32, Sheboygan Falls.

Evelyn’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hancock, Dr. Carpenter, Lisa Zastrow, and Annie as well as all of the nurses and staff who took such wonderful care of her at Sunny Ridge.

The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Evelyn’s arrangements.
