The Crazy Old Lady – our beloved Evelyn Elizabeth Prevenas – peacefully left us on May 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable stories.
Born March 11, 1927, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Evelyn was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Fuller) Stampfl. Her childhood was shaped by the shores of Lake Michigan, her mother’s illness, and early responsibilities at home. Despite challenges, she graduated from North High School in 1945 with Honor Roll distinction.
After working at Kuechle’s Furniture and Wisconsin Bell, Evelyn met the love of her life, Nicholas Prevenas, at the second jetty on Lake Michigan. They married on May 15, 1948, and raised six children together.
Evelyn’s life was rich with service, creativity, and adventure. She worked at H.C. Prange Co., and served her church as secretary, Deacon, Elder, and committee member. In 1980, a move to Kingwood, Texas inspired her to launch a successful dressmaking and alterations business that thrived for 37 years.
Returning to Sheboygan in 1992 brought Evelyn back to her roots and closer to her growing family. After Nick’s passing, she embraced a new chapter of purpose and passion. She volunteered as an usher at the Weill Center for two decades, supported the Salvation Army, taught Tai Chi at the Sheboygan Senior Center, and even became a serial skydiver – proving that age was no barrier to adventure. At 89 she fulfilled a lifelong dream by performing on stage in the Big Sheboygan Shebang and performed again at the young age of 96 for the 2023 Live Forever Project.
Evelyn called herself an “introvert turned ham,” and her warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone she met. She cherished her family, her friends, and the many connections she made throughout her journey. With every stitch sewn, every story shared, and every act of kindness, Evelyn made the world a brighter, gentler place.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Nicholas, granddaughter-in-law Gina, grandson Eric, brother-in-law Anton, sister Carol, and cousin Ray. She is survived by her children Patrick (Gwendolyn), Steven (Karen), Daniel, Julie, Anthony (Kelley) and Richard (Carly). Her grandchildren Nicole (Randy), Christopher (Carissa), Andrew (Elizabeth), Kaitlin (Joe), Ashley (Francisco), Adam (Kayla), Jordan, Hayleigh, and Hayden. Great-Grandchildren Nicholas, Liliana, Cadance, Isaiah, Paige, Rylan, Nikolai, Maximus and Peyton. Her sister Rita (Bruce) Bond, and her “adopted” YMCA sisters including Judy, Marie, Willie and Mary Beth.
A memorial service of memories and laughter will take place at Olson Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan, WI on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Evelyn will join her husband Nick at the second jetty on Lake Michigan. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Evelyn’s spirit by making a gift in her name to your favorite charity.
