Elvira R. "Vera" Jetzer, 88, of Sheboygan passed away Sunday morning, May 25, 2014 at her home. Born September 5, 1925 in Milwaukee, Vera was a daughter of the late Edwin and Bertha Weber Lorge. She attended Port Washington area schools and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1944. On February 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Daniel A. Dayton by the Justice of the Peace in Monmouth, IL. They were married for 22 years before Daniel preceded her in death on February 2, 1970. She then married Arthur Jetzer on August 7, 1971. They were married for 19 years before Art preceded her in death in March of 1991. Vera worked and managed gas stations and mini marts in Sheboygan for many years until her retirement. She helped open the first 24 hour mini mart in Sheboygan. She previously worked as a telephone operator. While working for the phone company, she answered the call reporting the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Vera was an avid Packers fan who enjoyed watching golf on television, primarily for the beautiful scenery. She enjoyed car rides and traveling, especially to New York to visit her son when he lived out east. One of her greatest joys was collecting bells. She will be fondly remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor with a snappy come back. She is survived by her son, Dean Dayton, Sheboygan; her sister-in-law, Marian Lorge, Port Washington; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends. Besides her parents and her two husbands, Dan and Art, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Roman Lorge, Mabel (Kenneth) Nelson and Harold (Ruth) Lorge; and her three step children, Daniel E. Dayton, Betty (Dick) May, and Robert Dayton. Funeral services for Vera will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. Family and friends are welcome at the Olson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery in Port Washington. A memorial fund has been established in her name. The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Vera's arrangements.
