Elizabeth (Betty) G. Roy Verhulst, of Sheboygan, died peacefully at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 15 at Terrace Place in Sheboygan.
Betty was born June 2, 1921, in Milwaukee to Thomas and Mary (Jonas) Roy. She graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1938. After working in the offices of J.C. Penney and Sears, she retired from H.C. Prange, Co. in 1983.
In July of 1943, Betty married Donald Verhulst at the Bainbridge, Georgia, Army Air Base, where Don was stationed. They were happily married for 67 years until Don
She is survived by two sons, James (Catharine) Verhulst of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Thomas (Jeanne) Verhulst of Rochester, NY; a daughter, Vicki Verhulst Cok of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; four grandchildren, Cairn (Bill Olander) Verhulst, Laura Cok, Adam (Kristin Stroobosscher) Cok, and Braden Cok; two great-grandchildren, Iris Olander and Hugo Olander; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Roy; and numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a sister, Ferol Roy; a brother, Thomas Roy, Jr; 3 brothers-in-law, Harold (Edna) Verhulst, Theodore (Rena) Verhulst, and Calvin (Marion) Verhulst; seven sisters-in-law, Edna (Jake) DeBlaey, Cornelia (Cornelius) Jasperse, Alyce (Dick) Zonneveld, Eleanor (Ed) Winkelhorst, Harriet (Bern) Holle, Jeanette (Jack) Den Boer, and Gladys (Harold) Mentink.
Remembered for her positive spirit and sparkling personality, Betty was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan, where she enjoyed caring for the little ones in the Coffee Break ministry. For many years she also served with the Sheboygan Christian School Women
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:30 am at the Christ Community Church, 428 Geele Ave., Sheboygan. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum.
Memorial funds may be given to Sheboygan County Christian School or to the charity of your choice.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Betty's arrangements.
