Edward S. Westfall, 96, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015, in his home at Landmark Square, 832 N. 6th Str., Sheboygan, surrounded by his family praying the Lord's Prayer. Ed was born April 6, 1919 to Katherine Shreve Westfall and Edward Westfall in Bardstown Kentucky. Ed and his sister, Dee Dee Gwynne, spent their early childhood with their Uncle Holmer and Aunt Alma Shreve in Loretto, KY while their mother took work in Chicago. In their early teens, Ed and Dee Dee were reunited with their mother, Katherine, in Chicago. Ed's step-father, Irving Greenberg, became his beloved mentor who professionally educated and trained Ed in the men's clothing business. In 1944 Ed married Susanne J. O'Heron in Kansas City; Ed and Sue's parents had been longtime friends. Ed and Sue had three children, Daryl (Don) Scane, Westlake Village, CA, and twins Jill (Pete) Simmons, Venice, FL, and Dr. Jack (Rev. Judine Duerwaechter), Sheboygan, WI. The couple moved to Sheboygan in the early 1950s when Ed received a job opportunity from H.C. Prange Co. as their merchandise manager. In 1967 Ed met fashion buyer, and V.P. of Ellen Tracy Co., Helga Mandel Heinrich in Florence Italy; they have been married 46 years. Ed managed department stores in Longmeadow, MA, and Pasadena, CA, with meticulous expertise. Ed and Helga retired in 1998 in Palm Desert, CA, and then returned to Sheboygan, WI in 2013 to be close to family. Ed enjoyed gathering his family together annually from across the United States for exceptional vacations. He and Helga traveled extensively taking more than 20 cruises to all parts of the world. Ed also enjoyed cooking and during his scores of business trips throughout Europe he met and shared meals with many of the great chefs from each country. Edward's colorful personality and humor created much laughter for others. He took great joy in giving to his family and always celebrated the gift of each day. Edward is survived by his wife Helga, daughters Daryl (Don) Scane , Jill (Pete) Simmons, and son Dr. Jack Westfall (Rev. Judine Duerwaechter); granddaughters, S. Harper Westfall, Sheboygan, and Mikal Rae Westfall, Portland, OR; grandson, Michael (Natalyia) Scane and infant great-grandson, Holden, all of Sherman Oaks, CA. Edward was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father, sister, and his beloved 19 y/o granddaughter, Elli Westfall in 2014. The family takes great comfort in knowing Ed was welcomed Home to God by the Loving Light of Elli's hug. The Westfall family extends their great appreciation to Comfort Keepers' caregivers, Jane and Marlene; two outstanding caregivers who served with complete dependability and extended unconditional care and compassion to Ed and Helga. Also, to Edward's incredible hospice nurses, Karen and MaryAnn and their team; your gifts of nursing during such a tender time were completely supportive of our family's needs. And above all, knowing our words of appreciation and gratitude are insufficient, our family extends to Embrace Care Mgt. and your team of caregivers our heartfelt thankfulness for outstanding quality, attention, and care to both Ed and Helga, in often, difficult periods. Caregivers Margaret and Ann, you literally improved all our lives with your countless acts of professional compassion, your expert service, insightfulness, and numerous gestures of humane love. God bless you and thank you. At Edward's request private family services will be held in California at a later time. The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Edward's arrangements.
