Douglas M. Born, 80, of Sheboygan, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday morning, May 12, 2014 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee. Born June 12, 1933 in Cheyenne, WY, Douglas was the only child of the late Joseph and Helen Heyer Born. He attended Jefferson and graduated from Central High School in 1951. Upon graduating from Lawrence University, he taught history at Sheboygan North High School where he also served as the tennis coach. On June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Judith M. Jarvis in Sheboygan. The couple then moved to New York where Doug received his Masters degree from Columbia Teachers College. Doug and Judy moved back to Sheboygan where he became Vice Principal of Urban Junior High School before becoming the Personnel Director for the Sheboygan Area School District, a job he held for almost 40 years before his retirement. Following his retirement, he became the interim Principal of Sheboygan Falls Junior High School and then worked with the U.W. System as a student teacher supervisor. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, a life member of the Sheboygan Elk's Lodge, #299, a member of the Elk's National Foundation, a member of the Sheboygan Masonic Lodge, the Rotary Club and served on the board of the American Red Cross. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling with his family, history, the time spent with his family at the Elkhart Lake summer cottage and having breakfast with his buddies. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith; and his two daughters, Mary Beth Born Geraci, Milwaukee, and Jennifer Born Rutten, New York; his cousins, William (Marge) Wilbert, Algoma, WI, Warren Wilbert, Ft. Wayne, IN and Carol (Charles) Heyer Smith, New Orleans; his brother-in-law, Jack (Marian) Jarvis, Sheboygan Falls; two sisters-in-law, Jill (William) Dwyre, San Dimas, CA, and Susan Jarvis, Elkhart Lake; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Besides his parents, Joseph and Helen, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Richard and Shirley Jarvis; his son-in-law, Frank Geraci; and his brother-in-law, Richard "Jerry" Jarvis. Funeral services for Douglas will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at St. John United Church of Christ, 13th & Lincoln Avenue. The Rev. Gregory Whelton will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. The Elk's Memorial Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Elk's members are encouraged to participate in the 3:00 p.m. service. Interment will take place at Lutheran Cemetery on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established in his name for St. John's UCC, the Mead Public Library and a fund is being established for education in Sheboygan County. The family has asked for stories, remembrances or pictures that you may have of Doug to be shared with them to be used for the service.
