Doris Stauss Freye

Doris S. Freye, 98, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, April 30, 2021.
Born February 25, 1923 in the Town of Greenbush, Doris was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Alma Polster Stauss. She attended area schools and graduated from Elkhart Lake - Glenbeulah High School in 1939. On March 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harris K. Freye at St. Luke United Methodist Church. They were married for 60 years before Harris preceded her in death in 2006.
Doris and Harris operated Freye’s Service Station on Calumet Drive until their retirement in 1985. Doris was the service attendant and she pumped gas, checked oil, water, tire pressure and washed car’s windows. She also worked at US Bank for 10 years.
Doris was an active member of St. Luke, joining in 1944. She volunteered on the altar guild and the mailing committee. She belonged to the Rachel Circle and the United Methodist Women. She was a fixture in the food pantry for many years and enjoyed it very much. Doris treasured her church family.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Daniel) Cox, Sheboygan, her grandson Samuel (Alexis) Cox, Madison, her sister Ida Wachs, Milwaukee, brother and sister in law Edward and Carol Freye, Sheboygan, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Doris also leaves behind dear friends of all ages.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sisters Florence (Clem) Enders, Carol (Andy) Martin, Lilah (Orville) Losey, Laura Kilb and Margaret (Calvin) Smith.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date so all of her friends and family can celebrate her life together.
Memorial donations may be made to the Food Pantry at St. Luke Church and Safe Harbor.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Sunnyridge and Sharon Richardson Community Hospice for their loving care and support.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Doris’ arrangements.
Doris’ favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:31:
“What can we say to such wonderful things as these? If God is on our side, who can ever be against us?”
