Charles E. "Captain" Bartelt, age 74 of Sheboygan, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his home with his beloved dachshund Sparky by his side.
Born January 14, 1944 in Plymouth to Orlando & Leona Bartelt, he attended local schools graduating from Plymouth High School in 1962. He worked in the foundry and the enamel shop for the Kohler Company retiring in 2006. He served in the National Guard and retired from the Army Reserve in 1991 as a Lieutenant Colonel. On April 16, 1966 he was united in marriage to Judith Lemkuil at the Oostburg Reformed Church. He loved gardening and taking care of his yard. He was an active member of the Bethany Reformed Church. He also enjoyed listening to and attending Gaither Homecoming events, discussing politics and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He is past president of the Sheboygan Chapter of Master Gardener.
Charles is survived by his children; Kristin (Sean) Foley of Snohomish, WA, Timothy (Stacy) Bartelt of Sheboygan. Three grandchildren; Emily Foley, Max Foley, Elizabeth Bartelt and a step-grandchild, Kyle Foley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judith.
A memorial service for Charles will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Ave., Sheboygan. Visitation will take place from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service.
