Allen O. Schmitz, 94, a resident of Countryside Manor in Sheboygan, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, November 26, 2017 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Born October 19, 1923 in Sheboygan, Allen was a son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Bermke Schmitz. He attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1942. He then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during W.W.II. On June 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ruth M. Ernst. They were married for 58 years before Ruth preceded him in death on December 29, 2005.
Allen retired as Assistant Vice President from United Savings and Loan after 19 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Sheboygan. He loved traveling up north to their cabin and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and skiing.
Allen is survived by his two children, Barbara (Phill) Cyr, Rhinelander, and Larry (Ann) Schmitz, New Berlin; five granddaughters, Stefanie (Jim) Brusse, Cascade, Amanda (Chris) Kamps, Kronenwetter, WI, Katie (Peter) Crivello, Oconomowoc, Julia (Jordan) Wickman, Ixonia, WI, and Kristi Schmitz, New Berlin; his sister-in-law, Angeline Kreutz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents and wife Ruth, he was preceded in death by an infant son, his sister and two brothers.
Funeral services for Allen will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Lorri Steward will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. A private interment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park on Saturday.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
The family would like to thank the staff of Countryside Manor, especially Robin, Sandra, Cassie, and Laurie, along with the nurses at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
