Allen Brantley Dobey, 68, of Sheboygan and formerly of Virginia, passed away early Thursday morning, September 4, 2014 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Born September 11, 1945 in Washington, D.C., Allen was a son of the late Allen and Martha Lindsley Dobey. He attended the College of William and Mary in Virginia where he received his Bachelors of Arts degree before continuing his education at the University of Idaho where he received his Master of Science degree in Geology. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel during Vietnam from 1967 until 1973 in the Army Engineering Corp., 169th Engineering Battalion. Allen most recently was a geology professor at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Sheboygan and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed backpacking and shooting. He is survived by his brother, R. Benjamin Dobey, Sheboygan; his sister, Mary Carol (J. Cameron) Coleman, Ewen, MI; nephews and nieces, Allen Coleman, Phoenixville, PA, Craig Coleman, Minneapolis, James Coleman, Eagle River, WI, Lesley Coleman, Osijek, Croatia and Margaret Coleman, Burlington, VT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Martha. Private family services will take place at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in his name. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
