Alice G. Kummer, 102, formerly of Main Avenue, passed away early Saturday morning, February 9, 2013 at the Sheboygan Senior Community where she had been residing. Born July 12, 1910 in Sheboygan, Alice was a daughter of the late Theodore and O'Tillie "Tillie" Schmerling Nelson. She attended area schools and graduated from Central High School in 1928. She then continued her education at business college. On August 31, 1933, she was united in marriage to Elmer Kummer. They were married for 42 years before Elmer preceded her in death in August of 1975. Alice was a seamstress who worked at Excelsior Laundry and the Sheboygan Casket Company. She was an active member of Zion UCC and Wesley United Methodist Church where she and her husband organized the Young at Heart Club. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, pottery, quilting and kittens. Alice is survived by her son, Randy (Linda) Kummer, Mokena, IL; two grandchildren, Stephen (Jennifer) Kummer, Nashville, TN and Daniel (fiancé Amanda Schonfeld) Kummer, Chicago, IL; two great grandchildren, Elsa and Greta Kummer, Nashville, TN. Besides her parents and husband, Elmer, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel and Lillian and her brother, Fred. Funeral services for Alice will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Lippert-Olson Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Avenue. Nancy Simenz, chaplain of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sheboygan County Humane Society, 3107 N. 20th Street, Sheboygan, WI 53083. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Sheboygan Senior Community, the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Judy and Henry Nelson for all of their loving care and support.
